Derek Lester is a retired senior sales executive, whose interest in the Civil War led to him joining the Sealed Knot and English Civil War Society, in which he rose to command Colonel John Hampden’s Regiment based on Hampden’s celebrated ‘Greencoats’. His wife is vice-chairman of the Chalgrove Local History Group and co-authored a paper with her husband that was instrumental in Chalgrove’s addition to the English Heritage Battlefield Register in 1995. He is completing a monograph on the military and political significance of Chalgrove. John H. Rumsby received a BA in Archaeology and Geography at the University of Southampton, and in 2005 was awarded a PhD by the University of Leeds for a study of the Sixteenth Lancers in India 1822-46. He is a retired museum curator, and has a special interest in British regimental soldiering 1815-1860.
