L Parliamentarians hasten march across Great Close to where Warpsgrove Lane traverses the Great Hedge. Parliamentarians deploy through Great Hedge onto battlefield. Royalist Horse deploy behind low hedge on west side of ‘ancient track’ at that point called Upper Marsh Lane. Royalist Horse jump low hedge and throw back Parliamentarians. Note – the crossed swords on a black disc indicates where the battle was believed to have taken place as marked on the 1881 Ordnance Survey map. Parliamentarians attempt to outflank retiring Royalists. Gunter’s force follows Royalists along the ‘ancient track’ down Golder Hill. Highway from Clare joins ‘ancient track’. Royalist vanguard at Easington at 8.30 am. Royalists enter Chalgrove parish on ‘ancient track’. Royalists stand to face Parliamentarians on north side of the Great Hedge. Gunter’s force joins main Parliamentarian body in Lewknor Meadow.
